Training, training, training

Today was the first day for our morning runs. Of course all the Canadians overslept and we were 5 mins behind the Polish team. No coaches were happy about it but at least it was a bit of incentive to hustle more. We all got over it after a team meaning which included threats and the usual good cop/bad cop routine. The kids got the picture and the extra pushups and running extra km seems to be great incentive.

Morning wrestling sessions for the lads and ladies. Great technique was demonstrated by Ukranian coach Jarek as usual, and I had to make sure most was captured on video. Poor Mack and Becky were paired with monster counterparts and took some beatings. I don't think I've ever seen Mack so airborne! Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Our afternoon session was a special treat. Athletes and coaches in a roasting hot sauna! The good news was that the kids were wearing bathing suits instead of sauna suits. Our coaches were kind enough to stoke it to a blistering temperature and then have us take turns jumping into an ice bath. Coach Jarek was also kind enough to push wrestlers and our coaches' heads under the water. Plenty of screams to start, but our ladies started to enjoy the extreme heat and cold. Sarah, Katy and Robyn in particular were digging this.

After supper, coaches Jarek and Sebastian were awesome enough to treat the coaches to some beverages and then the whole team to a sight seeing tour of Zakopane. We saw a ski resort with hills and a jump. Apparently Poland has lost 2 bids for Olympic Winter Games, with Zakopane being the main host city. The kids don't know this but their run distance is greatly increasing tomorrow morning. :)

Tomorrow we get to train with the Poland U18 national boys team! Until then...cześć!
